The Sustainability in Education Conference
On Wednesday 2nd April, over 60 teachers, school site managers, school business managers and school governors attended the Suffolk’s first Sustainability in Education Conference.
Hosted by St. Joseph’s College, the conference was designed to support schools with the delivery of objectives from the DfE’s Climate Change and Sustainability Strategy. It opened with keynote speeches from Joe Billington, Head of the Sustainability Unit at the Department of Education, and from Talia Hardie from Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK).
Delegates had the opportunity to engage in a variety of workshops including climate literacy training, climate action planning, community climate action through schools, greening the curriculum and behaviour change for sustainability.
The conference exhibition showcased a variety of local and national organisations who offer support to schools in work around sustainability.
The conference closed with case studies of Climate Action Plans from a Norfolk primary school and a Cambridgeshire secondary school.
Feedback from the conference was hugely positive, with one delegate stating they were “so grateful” and “feeling much less overwhelmed” by the process.
The conference was co-organised by the Suffolk Sustainable Schools Network and The Science Hub. Special thanks go to the conference sponsor Barkers Associates.
Further events to support Suffolk’s schools will be taking place in the future, you can keep up to date with these at www.greensuffolk.org
